No wonder: oak wood is not only exceptionally robust, but also has a natural wood protection due to its high tannic acid content, which ensures a long service life. In addition, the wood convinces with a dignified look that also meets high aesthetic requirements. At Pickawood UK, you can get custom made solid wood shelves in high-quality craftsmanship that you can design individually online.
Use our practical online configurator to plan your desired shelving unit to fit exactly. Not only determine the external dimensions yourself, but also select the desired plinth height and the number of shelf columns and compartments. Individual partitioning is also possible. Would you like to add doors to individual compartments or a few drawers? Then simply activate the corresponding options. You also have the option of making further additions. Would you like more flexibility in the layout? Additional rows of holes provide adjustable heights. Or would you like to use the shelf as a room divider? On your behalf, we will make sure that the back also cuts a fine figure. Do you need height adjusters to compensate for an uneven floor? Then activate the corresponding option with just a few mouse clicks. The room has skirting boards that you don't want to remove? An additional skirting board cut-out ensures that the shelf adapts effortlessly to the wall.
Discover three different oak wood variants at Pickawood UK. Natural oak impresses with a calm grain and a natural wood colour. Smoked oak impresses with dark brown to almost black colour variations, which are created by treating the wood with ammonia. The natural structure of the wood remains visible. Knotty oak is a wood quality with knots and growth cracks, whose rustic beauty also inspires designers time and again. Depending on the type of oak you choose, you can add different types of wood treatment: Natural Oiled, Clear Lacquer or White Oiled.

If working with a metre rule is not your daily bread, then you may be unsure whether you have measured everything correctly. Angled rooms, sloping roofs or an uneven floor can also lead to difficulties when measuring. In these cases, we recommend that you use our professional 3D measurement service. If you measure yourself, please make sure that you plan sufficient installation distances. You can find a corresponding sketch template here.
Due to our recommended assembly distances, wall-to-wall installations create elegant shadow gaps. If you do not want these, we recommend covering them with suitable cover strips. We would also be happy to supply these on your behalf. Please contact our service department in this regard.
All the necessary individual parts are included in the scope of delivery of the custom made shelf. Many of our customers therefore decide to assemble the piece of furniture themselves and use our detailed instructions. Alternatively, you also have the option of using our professional assembly service. You can book this directly with your order or order it later.
The best solid wood care depends on the chosen surface treatment. If the oak wood is sealed with clear varnish, you can easily remove dirt with a slightly damp cotton cloth. Oiled oak is best cleaned dry. Heavier soiling can be "polished out" with a little furniture soap. However, the best care recommendation for oak is to protect the wood from moisture. Although moisture does not affect the quality of the wood, it can have a detrimental effect on its appearance. Therefore, avoid placing wet flower vases or glasses on the surface, as this could lead to unsightly water marks. If the wood does get wet, it should be carefully wiped dry immediately. If scratches or small dents have occurred, sandpaper will help. Be careful with lacquered surfaces, however, as the subsequent touching up of the surface could leave traces of lacquer. Oiled oak can easily be treated with a suitable wood oil.
